American Red Cross Lessons IPAP: Infant/Pre-School and Parent A class for both parent and child to explore and feel safe in the water. Creating a positive water experience and adjustment while kicking and having fun. Level 1: 3 – 5 years Introduction to basic aquatic skills, start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water. Level 2: 3 – 5 years Build on basics from Level 1. Most skills are performed with assistance. Marks the beginning of independent locomotion skills.. Level 1: 5.9 – 7 years – Introduction to Water Skills Learn basic personal water safety, information and skills. Help students feel comfortable in the water, going great distances and depths. Skills are performed independently. Level 2: 6 & up – Fundamental Aquatic Skills Will give students success with fundamental skills. Will learn to float without assistance, and begin the foundation for future strokes. Level 3: 6 & up – Stroke Development Will build on previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. Will learn survival float, front crawl, elementary backstroke, and how to enter the water head first. Will introduce scissor and dolphin kicks. Level 4: 6 & up – Stroke Improvement Will develop swimmers confidence. will improve their skills and increase endurance. Will enhance side stroke, breaststroke and backstroke. Will introduce butterfly stroke. Level 5: 9 & up – Stroke Refinement Will refine performance of all strokes, and increase distances. Introduction to life guarding and water safety skills.
