Gymnastics Class Descriptions

GLC offers seven class types, with classes held throughout the week. Please scroll below to see them all: 15 Months – 2.6 Years: Nursery Gym This program is designed and recommended for the 15-month to 2.6 year-old. Activities are age-appropriate and child-directed. The focus in this class is movement exploration and parental/child bonding. We also add tumbling and basic preschool gymnastics skills. The parent actively assists their child during the class, and the teacher provides specific skill instruction in a non-threatening environment. Children must take turns, but the class is structured to accommodate the short attention span of this age group. 2.6 – 3.6 Years: Parent and Tot This program is designed and recommended for the 2.6 to 3.6 year-old. Activities are progressive and age-appropriate, and parent/teacher-directed. Children will experience all of the traditional gymnastics equipment along with obstacle course activities to enhance motor development and eye-hand coordination. The parent actively participates with their child during the class, and the teacher provides specific skill instruction on achievement. The class improves listening skills, the ability to move to vocal instruction, and increases the child’s self-confidence as a mover/learner. 3.6 – 5 Years: Tiny Tots This program is designed and recommended for the 3.6 to 5 year-old. This class is a more structured approach to teaching preschoolers gymnastics. Children will experience all of the traditional gymnastics equipment, receive specific skill instruction, and be able to move through the activities independently. The class improves listening skills, the ability to move independently to vocal instruction, and teaches gymnastics in a fun, safe environment. 5 – 6 Years: Kindergarten A 60-minute weekly class is offered in our morning and early afternoon time slots. This transitional class is designed for those students who have completed the Tiny Tot program and are ready to be in a more challenging environment. Working in groups of equal ability, students will learn and develop fundamental gymnastics skills on three different events each class, While learning and having fun, your child will develop a healthy and positive self-image. This class is designed for children who did not make the cut-off for Kindergarten or are in a half-day kindergarten program. 5- 6 Years Girls* and 6 and Over Boys A 60-minute weekly class is offered in our afterschool program time slots and on Saturdays. This class begins with an aerobic warm-up and isolated muscle group stretches. This is the first level where the Girls and Boys are grouped separately so that the different Men’s and Women’s gymnastics events and skills can be introduced. Working in groups with others of equal ability, students will learn and develop fundamental gymnastics skills on three different events each week. Class ends with a period of conditioning exercises to increase each child’s strength. While learning and having fun, your child will develop a healthy and positive self-image. *This class is designed for students who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten or First grade . 7 -9 Years Girls** and 10 and Over Girls*** A 75-minute weekly class that is offered in our afterschool program time slots and on Saturdays. This class begins with an aerobic warm-up and isolated muscle group stretches. The students are then divided into groups according to their ability. Each group practices on three events where independent execution of fundamental skills and the introduction of advanced skills can be emphasized. The class ends with conditioning exercises to strengthen specific body parts. Through positive reinforcement, each student develops a healthy attitude and a positive self-image, while learning and having fun. **This class is designed for students who are in the Second through Fourth grades. ***This class is designed for students who are in Fifth grade or over. Tumbling Beginner – This class is for students with no experience in cheerleading or tumbling. The class focuses on basics, like forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands and backbends. Intermediate – Students who have mastered beginner skills can pick up where they left off in this class. Progressive skills like handstands, back walkovers, roundoffs and beginner back handsprings are all the focus of the intermediate level. Advanced – A standing back handsdpring is required to join this class. Our advanced Tumbling is a great complement for girls trying to stay in shape for school, Pop-Warner and all-star teams. This class lets girls take on new tumbling challenges. We train all levels of running tumbling, from a roundoff back handspring to tucks to layouts to fulls! Be the star on your team and train with the best at GLC. This class is designed for girls and boys who are 10 and Over . PLEASE NOTE: All of our programs are progressive and focus on each individual’s skill development. When the child shows readiness to progress to the next program, your child’s teacher will recommend the appropriate class. Close Window
